Why should I join as a member?
By subscribing to our service, you ensure that if an ambulance is needed by you or your family members, you will be entitled to a membership rate as opposed to a full rate. Tamaqua EMS depends on subscribers and third party billing to generate our operating funds. When you become a member, we submit a bill for our services to your insurance company, and any monies not recouped from your insurance is written off. Non members would be responsible for the remaining balance of the bill.
If you bill my insurance company, why should I subscribe?
When we send a bill for services, insurance typically doesn't cover the full amount of the bill. If you become a member, any amount not covered by your insurance is forgiven, For example, if we send a bill to your insurance for $500, and they only pay $300, this leaves a balance of $200 which a non-member would be responsible for paying. Members pay nothing else.
Can you explain the different types of subscriptions?
We have several different classifications of subscription members. They are as follows...
Senior Membership entitles people over 65 years of age to coverage by our service.
Individual Membership is for adult individuals between the ages of 18 and 65.
Household Membership covers any individual taken from the address of the subscriber.
My neighbor went to the hospital but was taken in an ambulance that didn't say Tamaqua on the side, why?
Even though we advertise coverage 24 hours a day 7 days a week, there may be a time when an ambulance from Tamaqua may not be available. We have mutual aid agreements with the neighboring ambulance companies and they will honor our subscriptions.
What about non-emergency transports?
We offer non-emergent transport services on a need by need basis. A non-emergent transport can be done in an ambulance for non ambulatory patients or patients with other medical needs, or wheel chair van for patients who can tolerate being seated in an upright position. A discount is given to our subscribers.
How do I arrange for a non-emergent transport?
A transport can be set up by calling our station at 570-668-3342.
Does the ambulance offer any training for the community?
We offer periodic classes in CPR or American Red Cross First Responder. Check our calendar or call 570-668-3342 extension 102 for details.
How do I join as a volunteer?
You can either stop by the station to fill out an application, download an application from this site, or submit an online application. All applicants will be reviewed at a monthly meeting and then contacted by a member of our investigation committee to schedule an interview.
